Professional Background:

I'm a Licensed Louisiana Home Inspector, an InterNACHI Certified Home Inspector, and IAC2 Mold Certified through InterNACHI. My path into this field is a little different from most: I earned a Master's degree in Educational Administration (1998) and a B.S. in Human Performance and Health Promotion (1995), both from the University of New Orleans, and spent years in education as a teacher, athletic director, assistant principal, and ultimately principal. Building science is what drew me in — understanding how homes are put together, how they manage moisture, and how those factors affect the health of the people inside them. That blend of a health-and-wellness background and a fascination with building science shapes the way I approach every inspection.

Major Metro Served:

I serve the Greater New Orleans area, a place with a character all its own. Our subtropical climate — high humidity nearly year-round, heavy rain, a high water table, and the constant threat of tropical storms — combined with a housing stock full of historic and raised homes, makes New Orleans one of the most mold-prone regions in the country. Understanding how our local homes and our climate interact is essential to finding the real source of a moisture problem, and it's something I take seriously on every job.

Motivation:

What draws me to this work is building science and the chance to protect people's health. Coming from a background in health promotion and education, I genuinely enjoy helping homeowners understand what's happening inside their homes and giving them the knowledge to make good decisions. Mold concerns can be stressful, and being able to bring clarity and a clear path forward is what I find most rewarding.

Success Story:

Every inspection is different, but my goal is always the same: find the true source of any moisture or mold issue, document it clearly, and give the homeowner a straightforward plan for what to do next. The inspections I'm proudest of are the ones where I'm able to connect a family's health concerns to a hidden moisture problem in their home and help them take the right steps to resolve it. Being able to give people real answers about the place they live is deeply satisfying.

Mold Inspection & Testing New Orleans Louisiana

For clients that do have elevated levels of mold in their property, we supply a full protocol for restoration. This includes a step-by-step procedure for how the remediation should be handled and who should be doing the work. Mold remediation is different than a normal remodeling job. When removing moldy materials, you are sending thousands of mold spores into the air. For this reason, problem areas should be contained and equipped with an airscrubber while work is being done. After contaminated materials are removed, walls must be hepa vaccumed and treated with antimicrobial solutions and sealants. These are things that professional remediation companies have the capabilities of doing that a normal handyman would not. If this type of work is attempted by someone without the proper experience, there is a high chance they will only further the air quality issues within the residence or business.

When dealing with these sort of issues in your house or business, you want to make sure that you use a company without a conflict of interest. Hiring a New orleans, Louisiana mold remediation company to finish an inspection is an example of what you don’t want to do. These companies often offer free inspections to get their foot in their door to pitch a larger, more pricey job. As we already mentioned, sometimes customers have tests that come back with no problem at all or one small enough to be handled on their own. A visual inspection could never tell you these types of details and some mold removal companies would not bypass the opportunity for work by letting you know your concerns are uncalled for.

Here at MI&T, we operate under a tough code of ethics. Our assessors are the best at determining whether or not you have a problem, where the source is, and giving you expert advice on how to get rid of it. So if you are worried about your indoor air quality, call the company you can trust at 504-533-8719.
